valentine-s-day-love-heart-4969

The Highlights

This weekend, our wineries, restaurants and arts venues offer many reasons to romance your Valentine on the North Fork. Several places offer chocolates paired with wine (and pairing variations like fudge, cupcakes, cake, and cheese.) Enjoy special wine dinners, either at vineyards or in restaurants–Duck Walk North and Shinn Estates host; so does Caci. (Caci is doing wine dinners every February Friday.) Other restaurants have special Valentine’s menus, all weekend through Tuesday.

Greenport Harbor Brewing throws a party, featuring beer, oysters & music. Southold Opera hosts a special concert, as does the North Fork Community Theater.

For more cerebral fun, hear a photographer/author present decades of work on NYC and LA; learn the history of the LIRR; ogle the wild orchids of Newfoundland; shop a high quality arts & crafts fair for a Valentine gift; enjoy the musical The Drowsy Chaperone.

  • Greenport Harbor Brewing: New Stories Simply ToldGreenport.  North Fork artist Peter Treiber Jr. Creating both locally on his family farm- where he also works-and at his studio space at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn, Treiber uses his artwork as a means of dissection and discovery. Using reclaimed wood and fragments from vintage magazines, his work strives to discover the limits of the materials, thereby reinventing them and placing them in a new context and new narrative that evokes both the surreal and the satirical. Treiber’s wall mounted sculptures playfully mock rustic hunting trophies, while his paper collages range from absurd adverts to faded antique shop finds, all which bear a charming simplicity.
