The August 17 Update

The North Fork TV Festival is a three day celebration of independent scripted television. Centered in the historic Greenport Theater, this year’s festival runs from Thursday, Sept 7th through Saturday, Sept 9th, 2017. Join us for screenings of some truly unique and deeply personal stories, not yet available to the general public. Sit in on one of our panels featuring actors, emerging creators and established industry professionals. Be entertained, ask questions, vote for your favorite show, and treat yourself to an amazing dining experience with an incredible assortment of beer, wine and local dishes.  The North Fork TV Festival proudly supports the East End Seaport Museum and its ongoing efforts to conserve the maritime history of the East End. August 17: East End Seaport Museum: Seaside Plantings with Peter Clarke

Peter Clarke, co-owner of Clarke’s Garden and Home, and past president of the Greenport Business Improvement District, has a passion for making the mundane into something beautiful. Humid, salt air can make even the greenest thumb wilt. But with Peter’s unique talents your bleakest planters and beds will blossom. August 17: Tribute Thursdays

Claudio’s honors the late Jerry Tuthill, co-owner of the Claudio’s establishments, with weekly concerts featuring the Northeast’s greatest tribute bands. Magic of Motown (Motown tribute) The show runs 8-11 pm. 21+ yrs old only. Details.

August 17: Weird Beer: OG Beer Release Night:

Greenport Harbor Brewing & Little Creek Oysters team up each Thursday to intro a new OG (Original Greenport) beer with happy hour pricing. This week: Deep Secrecy New England India Pale Ale – 7.5% ABV – A brand new IPA in the OG Series. Hopped with a newer Australian hop variety called Vic Secret and complemented with a touch of Citra. This juicy bomb displays notes of mango, pineapple, passionfruit and hints of piney resin.  5-8 pm. Details. 

August 17: Nature Talk: Speedy Snails, Walking Clams and Other True Tales,

The Nature Talks are a special series of talks held at the brewery in collaboration with Christopher Paparo of Fish Guy Photos. Artists of Shelter Island — ARTSI — is a great way to view art where it starts. Founded eight years ago by working Shelter Island artists of various disciplines and styles, ARTSI has become an annual summer highlight for visiting art lovers who come to the East End of Long Island and enjoy discovering the charming Shelter Island beaches, scenery, sites and dining just a ferry-ride away from the mainland, while meeting accomplished art professionals in their studios and viewing their work. 12-5pm. August 19: Art Demonstration by Dennis Coburn

Renowned watercolor artist, Dennis Coburn, will be demonstrating his artistic techniques on the porch of the Horton Point Lighthouse. He will be displaying his paintings of lighthouses as well as other subjects. 11:30am – 4pm Details.

August 19: Cocktail Party at the Windmill

Join Sylvester Manor for an evening of cocktails to support the restoration and preservation of the 1810 Dominy Windmill at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm. August 20: Book Signing ‘ “Free as Gods: How the Jazz Age Reinvented Modernism”

Art critic, curator, professor, and the new Director of Nassau County Museum of Art, Charles A. Riley, II will be presenting an illustrated lecture on his new book that features a lively, wide-ranging look at the connections inside the core group of avant-garde artists in Jazz Age Paris. 11am Details.

August 20: San Simeon Goes to Sea Sunset Cruise Fundraiser

The Sunset Cruise is a Fundraiser for San Simeon by The Sound Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. Tickets are $75 each and include beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres and a raw bar. Anders Langendal & Sons’ main focus is major restoration and repair of both wooden and fiberglass boats, with a specialty in marine woodworking. September 9: Concert in the Dome with John Joe Michael Roarty

This 2010 national guitar competition winner will demonstrate his mastery of the instrument and talent for composition in this magical, intimate performance held inside our 22′ observation dome.  Seating inside the dome is extremely limited Stargazing will follow beginning at nightfall. September 16: Sylvester Manor Concert: Solas

It can be convincingly argued that no band has done more than Solas to prove that celtic music today is truly a universal musical language, like jazz, classical, rock or bluegrass.  The band’s sound is explosive yet seductively personal – timelessly melodic yet rippling with modern muscle.  Founding members Seamus Egan and Winifred Horan along with Moira Smiley, the vocalist who knocked us out here last September performing with Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project, front this five-piece band that the Boston Globe has called “ the finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced.” This final concert will have an added bonus, a contradance in the tradition of “Plant and Sing”, featuring Ed Howe & Bennett Konesni’s band Drive Train! Sylvester Manor, Creekside. 5-10 pm  Details.

All day the streets close, the boats come out and the fun starts.  The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Society hosts “Back in Time.” This car show is unique because the cars are not just classic and beautiful, they are also pretty old. There’s also a costume contest, and the historic buildings are open for exploration. After (or before), wander downtown Cutchogue for restaurants, shops, Wickham’s Fruit Farm, Waters Crest Winery’s tasting room. 9 am-4 pm. Details.
