The August 3 Update

Visit Harbes Farm & Vineyard August 12th & 13th for their Annual Tomato Festival. This fun summertime two-day event takes place at Harbes Family Vineyard, from 11am-6pm. Bring the family to see who will be the annual Tomato Eating Contest winner. Two competitions held a day. Entry is free.

August 10: East End Seaport Museum: Greenport: The Right Place at the Wrong Time

“Greenport: The Right Place at the Wrong Time” is a historical tale by author Roselle Borrelli. It is a story about a house, a family, a builder, and some of the people who lived in the village of Greenport from approximately 1830s to early 1900s. It is a true historical account of the happenings in Greenport and tells a tale of odd occurrences, leads, and coincidences that will have you convinced there might just be something else going on than that which meets the eye. Claudio’s honors the late Jerry Tuthill, co-owner of the Claudio’s establishments, with weekly concerts featuring the Northeast’s greatest tribute bands. Who Loves You? (Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute) The show runs 8-11 pm. 21+ yrs old only. Details.

Heralded by CMT Edge as “one of the most promising bands on the bluegrass scene” the music of this Nashville based group is as down to earth as their intention for members of their audience: sit back, take your shoes off and stay awhile!  All the worries and frustrations of the world melt away as this charming acoustic band takes listeners back to a simpler place and time.  The Barefoot Movement was here for a house concert in 2015, and we can’t wait for their return to the summer stage! Sylvester Manor, Creekside 7-10 pm. Details.

August 17: East End Seaport Museum: Seaside Plantings with Peter Clarke

Peter Clarke, co-owner of Clarke’s Garden and Home, and past president of the Greenport Business Improvement District, has a passion for making the mundane into something beautiful. Humid, salt air can make even the greenest thumb wilt. But with Peter’s unique talents your bleakest planters and beds will blossom. Enjoy the talents of a local chef and Lenz wines. The menu is inspired by the season and created using local ingredients, prepared and served in the middle of the Lenz vineyards. Details.

August 19: Cocktail Party at the Windmill

Join Sylvester Manor for an evening of cocktails to support the restoration and preservation of the 1810 Dominy Windmill at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm. August 25: East End Seaport Museum: Marine Woodworking and Restoration

Anders Langendal & Sons’ main focus is major restoration and repair of both wooden and fiberglass boats, with a specialty in marine woodworking. This will be a rare opportunity to glimpse inside this amazing world with true craftsmen explaining how they accomplish their work. ***This session will be held at Anders Langendal & Sons located next to Greenport Yacht & Shipbuilding Co. on Carpenter Street in Greenport***Light Refreshments. 5:30-7:30 pm. Details.

August 26: Jamesport Vineyards: Jazz in the Vines–Spyro Gyra!

September 16: Sylvester Manor Concert: Solas

It can be convincingly argued that no band has done more than Solas to prove that celtic music today is truly a universal musical language, like jazz, classical, rock or bluegrass.  The band’s sound is explosive yet seductively personal – timelessly melodic yet rippling with modern muscle.  Founding members Seamus Egan and Winifred Horan along with Moira Smiley, the vocalist who knocked us out here last September performing with Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project, front this five-piece band that the Boston Globe has called “ the finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced.” This final concert will have an added bonus, a contradance in the tradition of “Plant and Sing”, featuring Ed Howe & Bennett Konesni’s band Drive Train! Sylvester Manor, Creekside. 5-10 pm  Details.

September 23 and 24: Greenport’s Maritime Festival

All day the streets close, the boats come out and the fun starts. Come and enjoy classic, ice and small boats; fireboat tours; cruises; live music; food, wine & beer tastings; Village of Greenport shops & restaurants; vendors; craft and nautical demonstrations; the Carousel; Stirling Historical Society; Blacksmith Shop; Seaport Museum; Railroad Museum; and the very cool Camera Obscura. October 1: Back in Time Classic Car Show

 The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Society hosts”Back in Time.” This car show is unique because the cars are not just classic and beautiful, they are also pretty old. There’s also a costume contest, and the historic buildings are open for exploration. After (or before), wander downtown Cutchogue for restaurants, shops, Wickham’s Fruit Farm, Waters Crest Winery’s tasting room. 9 am-4 pm. Details.

October 6: Love Lane Crossroads First Fridays
